Move over Jess. That guy in the stolen woman's A-line trench is mine! There's nothing like a little self-loathing eye candy to keep you watching sucrose soaked US sitcom. New Girl may have come on leaps and bounds since the pilot episode but Jess's flatmate Nick was the reason I kept on watching. His scruffy, self-deprecating ways and inability to care for tomatoes translated to loveable charm. School teacher Ms. Jessica Day saw it too and before long irritation gave way to goofing about, being shoulders to cry on during break ups and then becoming worryingly co-dependent (Jess stop being his 'cooler!'). My heart began to flutter as I and Jess unwittingly fell for the 'hot to trot' Nick Miller. The episode with that kiss aired last week and everything changed. I am now obsessed with the man.
It actually it turned out I was wrong about CeCe the hot model. After a few plot establishing episodes (do you remember 'The One Where Jess Drives to Her Ex's to Pick Up Her Stuff?' Boring!) the characters were breaking out of their finger wagging ways and telling us a but more about themselves. CeCe was a lifelong bud that clashing career paths and silly spats would not dissuade. She's got Jess's be-crocheted back. Her fling with the sleazy softie Schmidt revealed a lot about them both, secret relationships seem to have that effect. Winston's work woes were ones I could truly relate to. I didn't pee into a boss's milkshake but I came damn close. That leaves us with the bar man. The last flat mate from the oddly matched New Girl studio quintet. Nick Miller. Swoon.
This guy gave up law school to do, well, he's not too sure. In between pouring drinks and finally writing his terrible zombie novel, he is failing at love miserably. I'm not the only one who cheers (and swoons) and Nick the underdog. | I have an assortment of lady friends who find him thoroughly doable... |
That's the man for me!
It is this nonsensical belligerance crossed with his ability to embrace drunken enlightenment and tell people honestly he idolises them. Remember how enthralled he was with Jess's rich older boyfriend Russell? His expressions, vocal and pulled, are immortalised for your delight on this tumblr page - enjoy ladies, enjoy. Actually there are a lot of tumblrs dedicated to Nick and Jess's heart shaped relationship too, this one that one and this that looks a little too much like a wedding blog.
Which brings me crashing back to reality with a thud. I have fallen for a character in a sitcom. An imaginary person played by the very attractive (but it he as amusing?) actor called Jake Johnson.
So all I am left with is a fix, THAT kiss, because no real man is as good as Nick Miller. I viewed this video so many times it lost all meaning and left me numb. I O.D.d on N.M; so I gave it a few weeks and came back to it. Itâs good. It's real good. "I meant something like that." Hell yeah you did Nick!
I am ready to endure all that is polka dotted and irrationally cute for a fix of the pessimistic prince that is Nick Miller.
