Johnny violated by photo shoots

Rape. It’s a word you use when discussing a crime or a field of yellow flowers. No one should have to be told this, yet increasingly the word rape seems to be seen as something hilarious to play with. A cute portmanteau that makes me want to unfriend people on my Facebook profile is Frape. HA! HA! Someone got into your Facebook account and wrote an embarrassing status on your profile, that’s totally comparable.

Now anything you don’t like can be compared to rape apparently. I am all for reclaiming some words, or taking the stigma out of them (y’know, like Voldemort) but rape is not one of them. And whilst we’re on the subject, nor is bipolar, Miley Cyrus I am talking to you, no one’s acting choices are bipolar. Johnny Depp is the latest celebrity to use the R-word for something he does not care for in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine.

“Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man… Whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb.”

Johnny! You poor guy, I had no idea! I am disappointed that the man who is so frank about his continuing relationship with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, "Basically, if they're going to pay me the stupid money right now, I'm going to take it." Would think he could apply that flippancy to the term rape.

Here is a little Tumblr reminder for those who get confused as to what rape is. Johnny, this one’s for you.

He's since appologised, saying: "I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling.

"I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgement, please accept my heartfelt apology."

Might I suggest a substantial donation to a women's charity of your choice Mr Depp?

That would be a good response - if he can afford to give $6million to Nic Cage to pay his tax bills the least he can do is donate a week's wages to charity.
