We're not sure if you've noticed, but we have something of a soft spot for Courtney Love over at Squeamish HQ. She's a fierce rocker and we love her for it. It's a shame, according to some of the team, that she'll always be best known to some people as Kurt Cobain's ex-wife, when she should be known and celebrated in her own right. It doesn't look as if that's about to stop, either, with news that there's a new movie about Cobain's life in the works. The difference is, this one's being produced by Love. With all the rumours, gossip and nastiness that have swirled around their story, it makes some sort of sense that she would want to commit her side of things to film. It's a chance to tell the story her way. But who will play the main role? With Love looking for someone to cast, we thought we'd throw our suggestions into the ring...
1. I'd go for Tim Minchin. They have the same brilliant blue eyes (even if Tim's are down to contact lenses) and Tim has a lot of musical ability (even if he did learn piano instead of guitar). Ok, so I don't know if Tim can do an American accent. And he probably can't summon enough angst no matter how many ants are in his sugar bowl... But he's pretty and that's the most important thing right? Squeamish Louise
2. I can't think of anyone to play Kurt, I just hope they cast someone who can act rather than follow the Twilight route and cast based on how good the actors look with their shirts off. However, I think Efren Ramirez would make an excellent Dave Grohl. They look very similar and he's a great actor. Gareth
3. Well we had Michael Pitt in Gus Van Sants Kurt inspired Last Days and pillow lips (as I fondly refer to the actor) did a swell job. Now since films seem to get remade a few days after they come out it's good that Courtney realised now is the time! I'm all about reviving dead careers so I choose blonde 80s comedy flash in the pan Melanie Griffiths - her own past with drugs would mean her performance would be authentic and you know what, I just want her back on the big screen! 4. Can I be Captain Obvious and go for My So-Called Life era Jared Leto? If not, I vote Evan Dando of the Lemonheads, because when I was about 12 I had one of those dreams where I *knew* I was dreaming about one person (Kurt), even though he looked like another (Evan). It was an amazing dream, and involved both an ancient Roman market *and* Kurt Cobain rescuing me from a lion. F1Kate
5. You know what, I think Courtney Love should do it. She's already proved her acting chops and I think accepting the role of 'everybody' in the film is the kind of thing she would both accept and do pretty well with the aid of some wigs and prosthetics. Think of the joy you would feel as the credits roll and you just see Courtney Love's name repeatedly scrolling along the screen (think of how Dave Grohl would get portrayed). It would be a beautiful moment and totally what Kurt would have wanted. Squeamish Kate
