Elbow Smashing Pumpkins

There are many factors that pop up in life demonstrating you’re growing up. Graduation, or your first job, perhaps. Your first 2 day hangover. Catching yourself bleating on about how children behaved in your day. For me it is watching musicians I loved grow into total, middle aged, politically incorrect buffoons.

I’m not sure I’m ready to discuss Morrissey. And besides, the recent un-Morrissey-esque (oh spellcheck, that IS a word) thing Morrissey did was to allow John Lewis to use The Smiths track ‘Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want’. Yes it is a dreadful cover blablabla, get over it, Morrissey’s got to keep himself in tofu.

No, this time it’s Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame.

Even the most diehard Pumpkins fan knows Corgan is not famed for being, how can I put this? Someone you’d choose to be stranded on a desert island with. The last person to gush about the loveliness of Corgan was - oh it pains me - Jessica Simpson.

I get the feeling that some of this Corgan-based spleen has filtered through to Billy. It’s been years since The Smashing Pumpkins proper released anything to match Adore, Zwan was a bust and The Future Embrace  was rubbish (Billy, if not even Robert Smith can save your album…). So how can someone previously lauded as a genius in the 90s carry on?

Why, launch Resistance Pro of course! Corgan claims to be a “wrestle-maniac” and a lifelong fan of professional wrestling. Corgan has taken on the role of creative director, what does a pro wrestling company’s creative director do? Oh tish now you know perfectly well. Billy will be writing the story lines. Yes, all that lycra drama was faked. Oh you knew those fights were scripted, come on. Quit crying.

Resistance Pro (does anyone else feel that Corgan could have come up with a better name?) will hold its first event on the 25th of November in Chicago.
